As one participant wrote: “This class can change your life.”
Mindfulness
is a special way of relating to our experience, namely with our
intention to stay in the present moment, accepting our experience just
as it is.
Mindfulness Meditation
is a wakeful, alert, and yet relaxed practice that helps us to develop
this capacity to be fully present and accepting of what is happening in
the here and now of our lives.
With
Mindfulness Meditation we slow down,
look closely and see more clearly what we are actually experiencing. We
learn a more compassionate, healing stance toward ourselves and others.
In doing so
we begin to free ourselves from our habitual ways of reacting and
are naturally in a better position to choose wisely what we may
need to do, or not do, in a given situation.
Meditation
has more recently attracted growing interest from scientists and
researchers. We are finding the effects of meditating to be both
immediate and long term.
The practice
of Meditation has proven helpful
in: ● reducing stress and anxiety
● alleviating depression
● managing pain
● alleviating sleep problems ●
increasing concentration and efficiency ●
freeing us from old habits and addictive behaviors
● improving relationships.
Regular
practice of Mindfulness Meditation
can free us from emotional, mental, and spiritual suffering.
Clear, relaxed awareness opens us to embrace life's challenges,
possibilities, and simple joys. Living mindfully means living fully,
happily, freely and wisely.

This class will
consist of a general introduction to mindfulness practice,
including formal meditation and informal methods of bringing
mindfulness into our everyday life. We will then practice
specific ways to use mindfulness to help with common
emotional and behavioral issues such as stress, anxiety,
fear, depression, pain, addictive behaviors, bad habits, and
relationship enhancement. This class is appropriate for
those with no prior meditation experience and for those
wishing to enhance their mindfulness practice. Those with
interest, curiosity, and willingness to practice mindfulness
strategies on their own will benefit most from this
experience. While this class is designed to last about 8
weeks, we will adjust the pace of the class to the specific
needs of the group. |
